Pentland Abstract|This correspondence discusses interactive graphics systems driven by visual input. The paper describes the underlying computer vision techniques and presents a theoretical formulation which addresses issues of accuracy, computational e ciency, and compensation for display latency. Experimental results quantitatively compare the accuracy of the visual technique with traditional sensing. An extension to the basic technique to include structure recovery is discussed. Keywords|Egomotion, head tracking, Kalman lter, structure from motion, teleconferencing, virtual holography.

Does the Quality of the Computer Graphics Matter when Judging Distances in Visually Immersive Environments?

In the real world, people are quite accurate in judging distances to locations in the environment, at least for targets resting on the ground plane and distances out to about 20 m. Distance judgments in visually immersive environments are much less accurate. Several studies have now shown that in visually immersive environments, the world appears significantly smaller than intended. This study ...

The User Interface for Interactive_SIGHT

The Interactive_SIGHT (Summarizing Information GrapHics Textually) system is an ongoing effort that aims at providing visually impaired persons with greater accessibility to information graphics found on the Web. Originally named SIGHT, the system uses a Browser Helper Object (BHO) and screen reading software to enable visually impaired internet users to learn the underlying message of informat...

Exploring Scalable Vector Graphics for Visually Impaired Users

Graphical information is very important in common information publishing. For visually impaired users this information is usually not accessible. Scalable Vector Graphics, a recommendation of the World Wide Web Consortium, describes graphical information in an XML document. We propose a transformation scheme into a tactile representation for this kind of graphics. Navigation modes, filters, and...
